Jorum hosts a wide variety of learning and teaching resources from any subject area within UK Further and Higher Education learning and teaching, ranging from simple one-file assets and links to external resources, to more complex learning objects, including content packages and open courseware. These resources are free to use, and are available for all educational purposes, for download, reuse and repurpose.
Each collection contains information about the resources, known as 'metadata'. Metadata enhances the searching and browsing process by enabling more effective keyword searching. This provides simple search functionality by finding resources via relevant keywords.
Jorum offers two collections for search and deposit – JorumOpen and JorumUK.
JorumOpen - learning and teaching resources whose creators/owners have made available for sharing under Creative Commons (CC) licences.
JorumUK - learning and teaching resources deposited in Jorum prior to January 2010 that creators/owners made available for sharing through an institutional licence.
Further developments in 2010 will extend JorumUK to enable sharing across all UK Further and Higher Education institutions, without the need for an institutional subscription through the introduction of the JorumEducationUK licence.
Anyone can search for and download resources from JorumOpen, providing you respect the terms and conditions of use as specified in the resource's Creative Commons licence, and Jorum's Terms of Service.
JorumUKIn order for staff to search, preview and download resources from the JorumUK collection, your institution must first subscribe as a JorumUK User.
Once your institution has subscribed, individual staff members can then obtain a JorumUK User account to access and download resources from the collection.
* You can search either collection by selecting the 'Search' button at the top right of the page.
N.B. An additional licence - JorumEducationUK , will be available spring 2010, and will not require an institutional subscription to search and deposit.
Members of UK Further and Higher Education institutions can deposit resources into JorumOpen, and is the choice for those who wish to deposit learning and teaching resources for anyone to use under Creative Commons (CC) licences. You will be asked to authenticate using your UK Access Management Federation credentials during the deposit process.
JorumUKThis collection is the choice for those creators/owners, who need to restrict the availability of a resource to UK Further and Higher Education institutions only. Currently, this collection is only available for staff in UK Further and Higher Education institutions to deposit.
Depositing resources into JorumUK, requires institutions to subscribe as a JorumUK Depositor, and for individual staff members to be nominated as depositors. You will then receive a JorumUK Depositor account and will be able to deposit resources in JorumUK, authenticating via the UK Access Management Federation.
* You can deposit into either collection, by selecting the 'Deposit' button at the top right of the page.
